Personal Thoughts About Learning Science.

Whether you know it or not, science is a huge part of our daily lives, from technology to transportation to medicine to legal issues and government decisions. And the pace of research and discovery is quickly accelerating. That makes it more important than ever to understand science, therefore, students can better understand the world.
Teaching science requires critical thinking, effective communication, collaboration and creativity. And in my experience in learning sciences (biology), I have learned these things and they made my experience a good one.
From grade 1 till grade 12, I enjoyed learning sciences. From grade 7 till grade 12, I enjoyed learning life sciences and chemistry. I have met some teachers who were professional and have experience in teaching, and the others who were not at all. Some give lectures, others explained lessons and teach us.
In my early childhood education, science wasn’t so much exciting but it was my curiosity to get answers to many questions that the most children asks such as “why is the sky blue?”, “how does our bodies work?”. This created a thirst for science in me. In this stage, teachers were constructing knowledge by guiding me to understand every topic they explain.
My experience in learning science was developed stage over stage. In high school, I enjoyed studying chemistry and biology and I used to get high grades. This was possible because of a specific skillful teacher who inspired me to love science more and more. It was in grade 12. The teacher always spread positive energy in the class which increases my potential and motivates me for recieving info easily.
She used to say some words  just can’t forget such as “love each other” , “you can do it”, “it is easy”. When explaining lessons, she used to reveal that the topic is important and valuable. In addition to that, she related every lesson to real life so I know that everything I took is going to be applied in real life or practice it one day. I remember that during explaining mitosis and meiosis, she used to bring some forms to the class t clarify ideas. These patterns help us to understand the division of chromosomes.
Moreover, this teacher used to enter the class with all the love she had.  If you see this image you’ll think that this is her house and the students are her little children. Her relation with us was never teacher to students relation, on the contrary; it was a friend to friend or a sister to sibling treatment. Whenever she noticed that some of us didn’t understand even if a small information; she tries to do her best and explain again until we understand the whole thing as if it’s our name.
This good relationship building can reflect her amazing teaching skills, she make every student feels valued and important in this class and in return we will be most effective.
In addition to that, the teacher used several techniques in class to help us understand and develop which are:
·         Real-life scenarios that involve case studies and ways of analyzing current problems.
·         Peer-to-peer teaching, which involves us in our own education.
·         Scientific projects, which teach the scientific methods of inquiry and experiment.
It is important for us as students to deal with real-life problems and relate these problems to scientific theory. These methods that I experienced in science classes stimulate critical thinking, communications,  collaboration and creativity. Real-life and case studies encouraged me to think critically. Social interaction gets us educated about the world around us. Scientific project quite often have long-term objectives and get us involved in expirements. This teacher affected me positively so when I entered university I chose biochemistry to study. Although  It was hard to study biochemistry at the Lebanese university, I enjoyed the major since it was satisfying and quench my thirst for science. 3 years were full of knowledge and experience I get from the professional doctors I have met.
Finally, building a good relationship with students, communicating high expectations and standard, creating a fuzzy, secure, and safe classroom helped me to have a high academic achievement and to remember day after day what this teacher have made me feel that time.
